Beard / Scalp Micropigmentation Removal

At New Leaf Tattoo Removal, we specialize in safely and effectively removing beard and scalp micropigmentation (SMP) - commonly called “hair tattoo” or "beard tattoo".  Whether your SMP is too dark, uneven, outdated, or simply not what you envisioned, our skilled team provides personalized treatments designed for your skin and goals.

Using the Astanza Duality Signature Laser, the gold-standard in tattoo and cosmetic pigment removal, along with the Zimmer Cryo Cooling system for added comfort, we deliver precise, safe, and comfortable treatments that help you achieve natural-looking results with minimal downtime.

How SMP Removal Works

Beard / Scalp Micropigmentation deposits pigment into the upper layers of the skin to mimic the look of hair follicles. Our Q-switched Nanosecond Astanza Duality Signature Laser delivers ultra-short pulses of light energy that specifically target pigment particles. The laser’s energy shatters the pigment into microscopic fragments, which are then naturally flushed away by your body’s lymphatic system over time.

Because the pigment is broken down gradually, the process is both effective and gentle on the skin, preserving surrounding tissue and hair follicles.

What to Expect from SMP Removal

  1. Personalized Consultation - We evaluate your SMP density, pigment depth, and goals.
  2. Comfort & Safety - Our Cryo Cooling system keeps the area chilled before, during, and after each treatment, ensuring a comfortable experience.
  3. Treatment Session - Laser pulses precisely break apart pigment. A temporary whitening (frosting) effect often appears, confirming the pigment is being targeted. Mild redness, swelling, and tenderness are expected and a sign of successful treatment.
  4. Healing & Aftercare - Keep the skin clean and protected from sun exposure. We’ll give you clear aftercare instructions to maximize results.

Most clients need a series of sessions, spaced 6-8+ weeks apart, depending on the size of the treated area, pigment saturation, skin type, and whether the goal is fading or complete removal.

Why Our Technology Matters

Astanza Duality Signature Laser

  • Medical-Grade Q-switched Nanosecond technology designed specifically for traditional tattoo, PMU and SMP removal.
  • Dual wavelengths (1064nm and 532nm) target both dark and lighter pigments.
  • Trusted by leading tattoo removal professionals worldwide for consistent results.

Zimmer Cryo Cooling System

  • Provides continuous freezing air (-30C / -22F) before, during, and after treatment to minimize discomfort and protect the skin.
  • Significantly reduces redness, swelling, and downtime after each session.
  • Clients describe the treatment as far more comfortable than expected due to Cryo cooling.

We believe in working with your skin, not against it. That means expert care, honest expectations, and support at every step.

How Many Sessions Will I Need for SMP Removal?

Every beard / scalp micropigmentation (SMP) treatment is unique, so the number of sessions varies from person to person. On average, most clients need 4 to 8 laser sessions to achieve their desired results. Several factors influence how many treatments you may need:

  • Pigment depth and density - The more saturated or layered the SMP, the more sessions required.
  • Skin type and healing - Each person’s skin type responds differently to the laser, and every immune system clears pigment at a different rate
  • Desired outcome - Some clients want complete removal, while others only need lightening before a correction or new SMP treatment.
  • Ink type and color - A wide-range of SMP inks can be successfully treated with our advanced laser system, though certain pigments may take more sessions than others.

Treatments are typically spaced 6-8+ weeks apart to allow the skin to fully heal and give your body adequate time to flush away pigment particles. During your free consultation, we’ll create a personalized treatment plan, so you know what to expect.
