Types of Eyebrow PMU & How Removal Differs

Microblading

Traditional Tattooed Brows

Powder / Ombre Brows

This technique uses fine, hair-like strokes placed in the upper layers of the skin. Because the pigment sits closer to the surface and is typically iron oxide-based, it responds well to laser.
Most clients need 2 to 4 sessions for noticeable fading or full removal, depending on saturation and skin type.

Powder / Ombre Brows

Traditional Tattooed Brows

Powder / Ombre Brows

Applied with a machine to create a soft, shaded effect, this pigment sits slightly deeper than microblading. It tends to fade more gradually, which can make removal take a little longer.
Most clients need 3 to 5 sessions, though this varies based on density and how long the pigment has been in the skin.

Traditional Tattooed Brows

These are done using a tattoo machine with deeper placement and often carbon-based ink. Because of the depth and ink type, this method takes more time to remove fully.
Most clients require 5 to 8 or more sessions to reach significant fading or complete removal.

How Eyebrow PMU Removal Works

We use the Astanza Duality Signature laser - one of the most trusted technologies in the industry. Its two powerful wavelengths (1064 nm & 532 nm) allow us to target a full range of eyebrow pigment colors.

The laser breaks down the pigment into tiny particles, which your body naturally clears away over time. It’s a safe, precise method - especially for the delicate skin around the eyes - and offers fewer treatments than many other removal methods.

Why Choose Laser Removal at New Leaf?

Our laser method offers a safe, effective alternative to saline or chemical tattoo removal - especially for delicate skin.

  • Targets all pigment colors using the Astanza Duality Signature laser
  • Typically requires fewer sessions than other methods
  • Uses the Cryo Zimmer cooling system for a more comfortable experience
  • Minimal risk of scarring
  • Safe for all skin types (Fitzpatrick I–VI)

We believe in working with your skin, not against it. That means expert care, honest expectations, and support at every step.

How Many Sessions Will I Need?

Every brow is different - and so is every removal journey. The number of sessions depends on several factors, including:

  • The type of eyebrow pigment (microblading, powder/ombre, or traditional tattoo)
  • How deeply the pigment was placed
  • Your skin type and overall health
  • How your body responds to laser treatments over time

On average:

  • Microbladed brows typically require 2 to 4 sessions
  • Powder or ombre brows usually need 3 to 5 sessions
  • Traditional tattooed brows may take 5 to 8 or more sessions

We’ll go over all of this in your free consultation and create a personalized plan based on your pigment type, skin tone, and goals - so you’ll always know what to expect at every step.

Our Process

  • A free consultation to assess your eyebrow tattoo or permanent makeup and create a personalized laser removal plan tailored to your skin and pigment.
  • Multiple sessions spaced 6-8 weeks apart to allow your skin time to heal and the pigment to fade safely.
  • A mild snapping sensation during treatment, often compared to a light rubber band snap, eased with our cooling technology for your comfort.
  • Clear aftercare instructions and ongoing support from our knowledgeable team to help your skin heal well and achieve the best results.

Aftercare Is Key

Taking care of your skin after each session helps you heal safely and get the best results. Here’s what to do:

  • Keep brows clean and dry - no makeup or products for 7-10 days.
  • Avoid sun - no tanning or direct UV exposure.
  • No swimming or soaking - skip pools, hot tubs, and the ocean.
  • Don’t pick - let your skin flake and heal naturally.
  • Follow our guidance - we’ll give you clear aftercare steps after every visit.

We provide detailed aftercare instructions during your sessions to ensure the best healing and results.
