What is tattoo removal?

Tattoo removal is a treatment that uses laser technology to break up tattoo ink in the skin. Your body then clears away the ink naturally over time. It’s a safe and effective way to fade or completely remove unwanted tattoos.

How does tattoo removal work?

Our laser works by sending gentle pulses of light that break the tattoo ink into tiny particles beneath your skin. Your body’s natural healing process then carries these particles away over time, gradually fading your tattoo. Because every tattoo is unique, most require several sessions to achieve the best results. We’ll create a personalized plan just for you, guiding you through each step with care and understanding - because your comfort and goals come first.

Is tattoo removal painful?

Laser tattoo removal can cause some discomfort, often compared to the feeling of a rubber band snapping against the skin. How long it lasts depends on the size of the tattoo-small ones may take only seconds, while larger tattoos may take a few minutes.

To help make the process more comfortable, we use the Cryo Zimmer 6 cooling system, which delivers cold air as low as -30°C (-22°F) to numb the area before, during, and after treatment. Most clients are surprised by how manageable it feels with this added cooling support.

How many sessions will I need?

The number of sessions varies widely depending on many factors (tattoo size, ink color, age, location on the body, etc.). On average, most tattoos require between 5 to 8 sessions for complete removal. However, some tattoos may need more or fewer treatments based on individual circumstances.

Will the tattoo be completely removed?

Many tattoos can be fully removed or greatly faded with our advanced laser. How well it works depends on factors like your tattoo’s size, colors, age, and your skin type. Dark inks usually respond best, and older tattoos often fade more easily. We’ll review your tattoo during a free consultation and give you a clear idea of what to expect.

What are possible side effects?

During your consultation, we'll discuss potential side effects, which may include mild redness, tenderness, or swelling. These are common and typically subside within a few days. In fact, these reactions are positive indicators that the treatment is effectively breaking down the ink particles.

To enhance your comfort and minimize any temporary effects, we utilize a state-of-the-art cryo-cooling system that delivers continuous cold air to the treatment area. This technology helps cool the skin before, during, and after the session, significantly reducing discomfort and promoting a smoother healing process.

How long between sessions?

Treatments are typically spaced 6 to 8 weeks apart to allow your skin to heal properly and to give your body's immune system adequate time to process and eliminate the fragmented ink particles. During each session, the laser breaks down the ink into smaller particles, which are then absorbed by your body's immune system and gradually eliminated.

For larger tattoos - like sleeves or full back pieces - we may divide the area into sections to make the process more manageable and effective. We’ll space out sessions to give each section time to heal properly, while still keeping steady progress toward your overall removal goals.

Can I fade a tattoo instead of removing it completely?

During your consultation, we’ll help you create a plan that fits your goals - whether that’s fading, full removal, or something in between.

What type of laser is used?

We use the Astanza Duality Signature, a top-tier laser known for its effectiveness, safety, and ability to treat all skin types. It uses powerful 1064 nm and 532 nm wavelengths to target a wide range of ink colors with precision. The Duality’s ultra-short pulses break down ink particles efficiently, helping your body clear them faster and often with fewer treatments.

Why the Duality Signature Q-Switched laser over a Pico laser?

We use the Astanza Duality Signature Q-switched laser because it delivers consistently better results for most tattoos - especially black and dark-colored ink. Its powerful, high-energy pulses break down ink more effectively than many pico lasers, often resulting in faster fading and fewer treatments.

What really sets the Duality apart is how well it treats the skin. It’s designed to minimize side effects like hyper/hypopigmentation, textural changes, or scarring. Its precise energy delivery helps the skin heal more smoothly, restoring it as closely as possible to its natural, ink-free appearance.

What impacts your results?

Just like everybody is different, every treatment plan is unique. Results and the number of sessions you’ll need depend on factors like:

Tattoo Size and Location: Larger tattoos or those located on areas with limited blood flow, such as the hands, feet, and lower legs, may require more sessions due to slower healing and reduced circulation.
Skin Tone and Sensitivity: Lighter skin tones (Fitzpatrick types I–IV) typically respond better to laser treatments, as the laser energy is more effectively absorbed by the ink. Darker skin tones (types V–VI) may require more cautious treatment to minimize risks of pigmentation changes.
